ABOUT ME

Richard is a computer scientist and currently leads the data science team at AirQo-Makerere University, a google funded research project that aims at closing the air quality data gap in African cities using artificial intelligence and low cost IoT technologies

As a data scientist, He develops and refines machine learning models for spatial-temporal predictions, calibration of low cost sensors, and carries out data analysis and visualization. He provides mentorship and training support for graduate and undergraduate students at various universities worldwide. He contributes towards several research initiatives geared towards advancing scientific knowledge as well as policy documents bridging the gap between science and policy and he's also a champion of community empowerment through various knowledge sharing workshops and conferences

Previously, he played a crucial role in setting up the foundational structure for the data pipeline at AirQo that supports the ever expanding air quality monitoring network in Africa. He was at the forefront of designing the architecture of the pipeline, contributed immensely towards the data engineering works, network management platform, and the data analytics and visualization platform which is used by non-technical people like policy makers to advance air quality awareness and devise air pollution mitigation actions.

Richard holds a BSc. and MSc. in Computer Science from Makerere University. Richard is passionate about contributing toward positive change that improves the lives of all people in the world through innovation, science, technology and talent discovery.
